John Collings who built Bonamy House was the eldest son of John Collings and Marguerite Mauger and one of four brothers: the other three being William, Joseph and Thomas - Sir William Collings, Kt. (1781~1854) was a Jurat of the Royal Court.

John Collings married Marie one of the two co-heiresses of John Bonamy the last of the Guernsey Bonamys whose town residence at the corner of the Grange and St. John’s Street is a former telephone exchange. John Collings had three sons called Bonamy, Alfred and Peter and no daughters.

Bonamy Collings (1814—1850) married Elizabeth Durell d’Auvergne of Bonair St. Jacques, and had three children, John Bonamy, Charles d’Auvergne, M.A., M.D., and Gertrude Durell.

John Bonamy Collings married Cecile Jacqueline Campbell and had two daughters only, Louise d’Auvergne Bonamy Collings and Mary Gertrude Bonamy Collings who was the owner of the house before Geoffrey d'Auvergne Collings. His son, James Bonamy d'Auvergne Collings is the current owner.

The house has enjoyed extensive restoration since 2004. This included a re-built roof, soffits, windows and considerable structural repairs. The programme of repair and sympathetic restoration is ongoing, with much research and effort to source similar or identical materials to those used in 1820.
