Models

The following boilers are available:
- Ray 6K 3 - 6 kW
- Ray 9K 3 - 9 kW
- Ray 12K 6 - 12 kW
- Ray 15K 6 - 15 kW *1
- Ray 18K 6 - 18 kW *1
- Ray 21K 12 - 21 kW *1
- Ray 24K 12 - 24 kW *1 *2
All are 3 phase 415 volt or also single phase 240 volt for the smaller models. Typically you should apply to Guernsey electricity for a 'load form'; they will then come back to you telling whether your existing supply is adequate, or if they can install a new one as required (if they can, then this may be free).
Generally, it is preferable to use a 3 phase model rather than a single phase one because the load is spread over all phases, so the boiler presents a more balanced load to the electric company. The electrical distribution network is 3 phase, and in fact, most new buildings in Guernsey are supplied with 3 phase electricity. Typically only one of the phases is used in domestic situations such as for light and power.
Connection
Typically the boilers are connected on the Superheat tariff. A signal is sent through the mains supply by the Electricity Company to tell the boiler when the cheaper tariffs are operational. The boiler detects this and will switch on/off as appropriate; however, it is also possible to have an 'over-ride' switch that allows operation outside the low rate times, but at a more expensive rate. Wiring
This is simple, with an black armoured 4 core cable running from the meter to the boiler, plus a 1mm sq. control t+e cable. The boilers should have an isolating 'switch fuse' at both the distribution board and the boiler itself. You'll also want to connect a room thermostat / controller to the boiler to control the central heating. We can supply a neat Siemens/Protherm model to suit the boiler.Plumbing
You can use them either connected directly to the mains, or with a header tank.
If you require only central heating, and not domestic hot water, just connect the in and out pipes to your central heating system where you would normally connect any other boiler.
If you need domestic hot water, then you will need a separate hot water storage tank with a heat exchanging coil in it ('indirect') and also an 'input group' consisting of expansion vesel, regulators etc. just as you would with any storage tank. The tank needs it's own thermostat, and we can supply the electrical kit that switches the boiler's output between your central heating and domestic hot water. As with any central heating system, it is essential that these tanks are installed by a qualified, reputable contractor.
Typically these tanks can be purchased locally, in stainless steel, or, if you wish we can supply double enamelled steel tanks with either a magnesium sacrificial anode or titanium electrical anode. These tanks are cheaper but do require occasional servicing to achieve a long life - in the case of the magnesium anode it needs changing every 2 or 3 years, and a replacement anode costs approx £2. The titanium anode version required no servicing.Dimensions
- Width 410 mm
- Height 745 mm
- Depth 240 mm
Wall hung, it is about the size of a small gas combi-boiler.
*1 These larger models are 3 phase only, others are available in both single and 3 phase models.
*2 This model can be connected in a 'cascade' with multiple boilers if you need more than 24kW. Operation of the cascade is controlled by the first boiler. All boilers except the last one in the cascade should be this model, because only this model has the necessary pin-outs for control signalling.
